FAQ

We’re here to make the garden design process simple and clear.

At Growcape, we believe great gardens grow from a sense of connection—to the land, the coast, and the people who live there. Based in Dunsborough, Western Australia, we create thoughtful, sustainable garden designs across the South West, from Yallingup to Margaret River and beyond.

Whether you’re starting fresh with a new build, reimagining an existing garden, or simply wanting to feel more at home in your outdoor space, we’ll help you shape a landscape that feels grounded, enduring, and uniquely yours.

Here are some of the most common questions clients ask when beginning their garden design journey with Growcape.

  • Where are you based and what areas do you service?

Growcape is a garden design studio based in Dunsborough, Western Australia, working across the South West region, including Busselton, Yallingup, Margaret River, and surrounds. On-site consultations beyond 50 km are welcome and are charged at standard ATO travel rates.

  • How much does garden design cost?

The cost of landscape design in Dunsborough depends on your garden size and the complexity of your project. Once we’ve discussed your goals and site conditions, we’ll provide a clear, tailored design fee proposal so you know exactly what’s included—no surprises.

  • What is a concept plan?

A Concept Plan is the creative foundation of your garden design. Consider it your visual roadmap for how your outdoor space will come together. It outlines key elements such as paths, planting zones, lawns, and entertaining areas, showing how they connect and flow. The plan may also include suggested materials, feature plants, and design elements to help you picture the finished garden.

  • How long does the design process take?

Every project is unique, but a garden concept design typically takes around 6–8 weeks, depending on the size of your garden and the level of detail required. Larger or more complex designs may take a little longer.

  • Do you offer on-site consultations?

Yes. Once you’ve completed the initial design questionnaire, we’ll arrange an on-site garden consultation. This is a relaxed walk-through of your space to discuss your ideas, goals, and how you’d like to live in your garden.

  • Can you help with plant selection?

Absolutely. Plant selection is one of the most important parts of great landscape design. We’ll recommend native, coastal, or low-maintenance plants suited to your local climate, soil type, and desired garden style—whether that’s modern, lush coastal, or natural bushland.

  • Do you work with new builds as well as existing homes?

Yes. We create garden designs for new homes, renovations, and established gardens ready for a refresh. Whether you’re starting from a blank canvas or updating an older space, we’ll tailor the design to your site and lifestyle.

  • Do you manage the construction of the design?

Growcape focuses on design, not construction. However, we can connect you with trusted local landscapers and garden contractors, and offer guidance during the build to make sure your garden is created true to plan.

  • What if I'm not sure what garden style I want?

That’s very common—and part of the fun! Through our garden design process and detailed questionnaire, we’ll help you uncover your style preferences and how you want to use your space. From there, we’ll craft a custom garden design that reflects your lifestyle and feels naturally “you.”

  • Can you design with sustainability in mind?

Definitely. Sustainable garden design is central to our approach. We use water-wise planting, local native species, natural materials, and eco-friendly layouts to create gardens that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible—perfect for the South West’s coastal climate.
